The Delphi Economic Forum has established itself as one of Europe’s most significant annual gatherings for economic and geopolitical discussion since its founding in 2016. Held each spring at the European Cultural Centre of Delphi — a few kilometres from the ancient sanctuary where Greek city-states once sent their envoys to consult the oracle — the forum draws heads of state, finance ministers, central bank governors, business leaders, and academics from across Europe and beyond.

What happens at the forum

The four-day programme is built around plenary sessions, panel discussions, and bilateral meetings covering themes such as European economic governance, energy transition, digital policy, and geopolitical risk. Past editions have featured speakers including EU commissioners, prime ministers from across the continent, IMF and World Bank representatives, and Nobel laureates in economics. Sessions are conducted in English and are often live-streamed via the forum’s official channels.

The setting amplifies the significance of the discussions. Delphi sits at roughly 570 metres above sea level on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, overlooking the Gulf of Corinth. The town is compact and quiet outside summer peak season, making the forum period an unusually concentrated event in the local calendar.

The Delphi Economic Forum is a credentialed event — general public attendance at sessions requires registration, and most panels are invitation-only or reserved for accredited delegates, journalists, and academics. For those who do attend, the forum typically uses the European Cultural Centre’s modern conference facility, with some outdoor receptions overlooking the valley. The timing in late April is well chosen: Delphi’s spring weather is mild and clear, the site is far less crowded than in July and August, and the drive from Athens through the mountains takes around two and a half hours with good scenery throughout.

Whether or not you attend the forum itself, late April is an excellent time to visit Delphi as a destination.
